As a founding shareholder of a national wealth management company, Alan is in a better position than most advisors to understand the unique needs of high-net-worth clients. He is committed to building long-term client relationships based on trust, results and a genuine enjoyment of each other’s company. He limits his practice to a few dozen clients so that he can provide each client with a high level of attention and personal service.
For the past 20 years, Alan Cranfield has been dedicated to helping his clients achieve their financial goals. He has earned the professional designations of CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ practitioner (CFP) and Registered Financial Planner (R.F.P.). In addition to passing comprehensive examinations, continuing education is a requirement of maintaining these designations. Dedicated to lifelong learning, Alan has worked with several of the top consultants in the financial services industry, including Dan Sullivan, Bill Good, Steve Moeller and Bill Bachrach. Currently, Alan is working with John Bowen and his team of industry experts at CEG Worldwide, to help him identify and deliver the suite of services that wealthy families need.
Alan grew up in Hamilton, Ontario, where he earned a B.A. in Economics and Business from McMaster University. After graduating, he worked at IBM Canada for more than a decade, where he was recognized as President of the Office Products Division 100% Club in 1969. He also spent four years at AES Data, where he managed one of the company’s most successful branches and helped market one of the first models of the personal computer.
In the early 1980s, Alan joined Equion Securities, where he became a significant shareholder and a member of the executive committee. In 1994, Alan met and was impressed by the owners of Loring Ward Investment Counsel, a small, boutique money manager from Winnipeg with a unique method of managing private client portfolios. After completing his own due diligence, Alan was one of the first advisors at Equion to enable his clients to take advantage of Loring Ward’s powerful, fee-based process. Soon after, the two companies merged to form Assante Canada. In 2005, Assante created Stonegate Private Counsel to specifically focus on the needs of Canada’s most successful families and invited Alan to join as a founding Partner.
Outside of work, Alan is a member of the Antique and Classic Boat Society, Muskoka Heritage Society and Muskoka Lakes Association. He has homes in Toronto; Fort Myers, Florida; and Muskoka. Most warm weekends in the summer, you can find him cruising the lakes with friends in one of his antique boats.
